Worked as Nuclear Electrical Tech and later became a nuclear instructor at a nuclear generation station. Gave several Arc Flash courses over the years and enjoyed giving that type of training. Really opened…

Argh! Fell for some of the trick questions. Great stuff though. Worth learning. I still use the video from US NIOSH to teach arc flash protection. It's the personal story of three electricians who were…

I did the arc flash training some years ago, very happy that I work with a maximum of 48V.

It has been a while since I have worked in an environment that involved this safety hazard.

I recall a co-worker with a patch of skin on his arm grafted from his leg, the repair damage done from a high voltage electrical shock. During his career as a Radar technician his was severely burned when someone returned a breaker to an on position while he was inside the equipment cabinet. The breaker panel and equipment were on different floors. Kits like this didn't exist at the time. The only safety precaution was a tag.

Pretty standard lock-out, tag-out training only without the cheesy videos.  Good review!

Thanks for including this topic/quiz.  It is very important to be aware of in an industrial site.

Of course, you can get an arc flash in the office also, if you short out the mains voltage (120 or 240 depending where you work).

Some of the terminology throws me, but the majority of the concepts are the same as my country. Safety locks with the same key is an unusual one for me, all my safety locks are keyed uniquely. We also look to engineer out risks, before we apply work procedures, signage, training and leave PPE as a last resort.

Quite challenging quiz. It is also good to remind ourselves that the most important thing at work is safely return home every day.

This quiz is not one easy task, even for engineer with years of Hih voltage experience.

But the safety guidance and reference products are really helpful.

Nice fresher. I do LOTO almost daily at work, and the equipment is always labeled with arc flash, or we dont work on it until a label is calculated and made. LOTO and labeling is critical to a safe workplace.

Nice one there, I wonder if there is a regulation equivalent to NFPA70E applicable in France, in particular when it comes down to arc flashes

Luckily, since I don't do hardware other than to tinker around with max. 12v circuits, i don't face the dangers of arc flashes... they do sound quite scary, however
