BB-8 gets life-sized at New York Toy Fair

There's no arguing that Stars War: The Force Awakens was the biggest event of 2015. It smashed box office records and introduced viewers to new, lovable characters including BB-8. Before the launch of the movie fans could own a tiny version of the droid made by Sphero. But wouldn't it be cool if you could have your own life-size BB-8 droid? Spin Master has you covered. The company, Spin Master, unveiled a life-sized BB-8 at this year's Toy Fair and it is cool.

This new BB-8 stands at 19 inches including antenna, which is only 7 inches shorter than the actual droid in the movie. The toy is made out of sturdy plastic and does not use an app for control like last year's model. Instead this version uses a remote and voice control making it possible to watch BB-8 glide across the floor.

As an added bonus BB-8 actually responds to you albeit in a series of beeps and boops taken from the film. And don't worry if there's more than one person in the room. BB-8 will interact with the multiple voices it hears. It will also react when names like “Kylo Ren” or “Stromtrooper” are dropped. One of the new features is the cool “follow me mode:” when you start walking BB-8 follows right behind you. Talk about an adorable companion. There's also a “sentry mode” where BB-8 stands still and scans its surroundings. If it sees movement it will sound an alarm.

BB-8's body and head currently come in two separate pieces, but Spin Master says the finished version will scream if you take off its head. The droid's body is rechargeable and needs about 2 hours charging for one hour of play. Both the remote and BB-8's head require AA batteries. Spin Master hopes to release the droid in September, just in time for the holiday season, with a price tag of around $179 only $30 more than the model launched last year. With this life-size BB-8 you can finally recreate your favorite scenes from the movie.
