Attacknid fighting robot. Low impact and low budget battling robot for the broke-competetive type. (via CombatCreatures)
CES is all about showing off new technology and what could fit that bill better than robots? In this case it’s Combat Creature’s ‘Attacknids’ battle-bots, which were seen parading through the exhibition hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Attacknid toy robot is the brainchild of toy-maker Jaimie Mantzel who started the robot’s development several years ago as a miniature version of his full-sized mechanical monstrosity (AKA: the Spider Tank, still under development). The robot stands 10 inches tall and features 6 motorized appendages (actuated by 3 slow-moving motors) making it surprisingly agile for combat. Its legs and body can be outfitted with Bolt ‘N’ Battle plastic armor (that are connected to the robots ‘skins’) that snaps into place and can be knocked off in battle when the leg takes a direct hit from an opponent’s robot, which can be anywhere from 1 to as many as 40 at any given time. Each robot is outfitted with a ‘dissector disc’ weapons system that’s able to be manually aimed (up and down) which fires disc-shaped projectiles at a distance of 30ft (other weapons will be released soon and include ‘Snyper Darts’ and ‘Destroyer Spheres’). Situated on top of the Attacknid robot is the Battle Brain, which can turn a full 360 degrees and is the primary target of opportunity as when it receives 3 direct hits the robot shuts down, and you’re out of the battle. The robots are powered by 4 AA batteries and are R/C controlled with a remote gamepad that houses a 2.4GHz chip that allows for 40 players to seamlessly interact with each other in combat ( although Combat Creatures states that theoretically you could battle 59,999 other players at any given time). The Attacknid series robots are available now for around $112 US and come with everything you need to battle right out of the box including 1 R/C gamepad, 20 discs, two targets, 6 AA batteries and 6 pieces of battle armor.
With everyone having the same bot, piloting skills are most important. I think winning would be a greater achievement than dominating with a giant bot in the "Battle-bots" competitions.
