A picture that has haunted my dreams. Meet the deranged creations of Night Terrors. (via Nouvum Analytics)
Nouvum Analytics is developing a game called Night Terrors that will become a first ever augmented reality game of these proportions for iPhone. The game will also expand to Android and Windows phone platforms after its release. The project is currently on Indiegogo seeking a whopping investment of $70,000 to fully develop the game.
The team has currently managed to raise over $47,000, and the campaign is all over. They still get to keep that at Indiegogo.
The game will essentially use augmented reality to put ghosts, monsters, and ghouls around your house and you’ll have to navigate around your home while avoiding the horrific creatures to find and save a girl. The phone will use your iPhone camera to first make a map of your home that it will then use to later alter and create the scene of the game. Once the app knows your home, it will use that to put monsters in front of you as you walk around with your iPhone in your house. Then you’ll have to find the girl who the game will have nested somewhere in your home. Now, you’ll just have to try and survive the game by avoiding the attacks of the demented creatures in Night Terrors. Something like this hasn’t come out before and this would be the first attempt. If all goes well, I’m sure that the iPhone app market will go insane with enough augmented reality games to spark nausea.
If you are interested in having this game, then a pledge of just $5 will ensure that you get a copy when it’s released. If you pledge $25 dollars then the voice-over actors will record your name and use it to personalize the taunting of the demonic creatures in the game. Pledges have a wide range that allow you to put a horror version of yourself into the game and you can even spend $5000 to have the developers customize a horror experience that uses your greatest fear. I can somehow see that becoming something that therapists may use to get their patients over a fear of spiders...
If you, for some reason, have tons of cash to burn and nothing else to do with your time, then a pledge of $10,000 will get you a roundtrip to the release of the game in L.A. along with a horror movie hair and makeup session for the red carpet.
If the project gets off the ground and goes well, I can see it becoming a fun thing to break out at a dinner party with friends. Although personally, I think I’m luckily past the age of finding pleasure in scaring myself into an anxiety attack. However, if you want to potentially pee your pants, then this seems like a game that will live up to its reputation. Although, like all apps, I’m sure the fun and shock value will quickly diminish until it becomes another forgotten fad. I can’t help but wonder that $70,000 would be put to better use elsewhere, but if you disagree and must be the first to have this game then check out their Indiegogo after the link.
