Art and technology meet again. This time in the form of traditional Kabuki. The robot, dubbed Tokotokomaru, is a customized hobby robot like the ones featured in the recent robot marathon by Vstone.
Older version of Tokotokomaru and creator Amino Azusa shown after winning a robot battle competition. Note the belt.
Almost as soon as these hobby robots were introduced, they were made to fight each other. The Robo-One robot fighting circuit is where an older version of Tokotokomaru was first introduced. But, the bot has hung up its fighting belt and moved on to art.
At around $1,000 USD a piece, these hobby robots are, without doubt, for the enthusiast. I would like to see an entire film starring these types of bots. No CG, no other types of puppetry, just showing the robots doing what they can realistically achieve. Tokotokomaru's step into artistic expession give me hope that a film could one day be possible.
