Robot Combat League, first episode, promise and letdown

For those who missed the “Robot Combat League,” here is the first full episode.

Cutting past the introductions and vague robotic descriptions, the battle begin. To be honest, it has moments where it is cool, but most of the time it looks like giant versions of toys bumping into each other. Choreographed pyrotechnics liven up the hits, but I see right past it. Clumsy “fighting” aside, it looks like it might be fun later after a few versions.

The best part of the operator’s harness for the robot arms. It attempts to mimic the movement of the “boxer.” However, the bot seems limited to only a few degrees of freedom. It definitely is not like robotic puppetry.

Without further delay….

Yeah watched it and the last 5-10 mins were kinda fun. The game is just like the toy boxing robots that  were  about inthe 80's  (ish) just bigger and messier

The Pyro's were abit over done and all and all I think it could be described as a Nerd WWF

Would watch if bored or ifthey got rid of the sparklers and the Jaw Jaw that composed 80% of the program.

Since a bot like "Asimo" or "Petman" would be fun to see in a fight, I think the price is just too high right now. However, these giant toys sort of do the trick.

I have an issue with the contestants. They seem like just random people off the street. And the "thunderdome" like audience watching the fight, can't be that excited. But, that's TV for you.

Real Steel will have to wait...

I've also watched the first episode and while it's not "Real Steel" by any means, it's certainly a decent first step.  The only element that's missing is having the robots free standing so there can be actual knock downs.  I'm also looking forward to seeing how the combatants technique improves over time.

    Hi Cabe,

I watched the first episode and was very disappointed.  I will not watch any others.

I would rather play a game of the old rockem-sockem robots.  You would have more fun.

In short, those types of robots are not ready for prime time.  The artificial drama provided by the show is low and the pyrotechnics over done.

I would rather see the old battlebots continue.  There is more action and real drama involved.

    Just my opinion,

    DAB
