This robot in disguise makes his debut at the 2015 Tokyo Toy Show
Transformers have been a hot seller in the toy world since the 80s. Thanks to the overblown Michael Bay films, the franchise has only gotten bigger and along with this came more advanced toys. But no matter how much you paid for that 16 inch McFarlane figure of Optimus Prime it can't transform on its own. TakaraTomy, the Japanese toy company, recently showed off its fully automated Transformers Adventure/Robot in Disguise Bumblebee robot at the 2015 Tokyo Toy Show. Standing at four feet tall in its humanoid form and 3.8 meters long as a car, this robot has the ability to transform autonomously in about 10 seconds. It can also walk on two feet and reach speeds of 60 kph when in car form.
The robot was created as part of Project J-deite, which was launched last year to explore next-gen robotics technology. It's also a collaboration between Astratec Corp, maker of V-Sido software for robotic controls, and Brave Robotics, who specializes in creating transforming robots. The two companies hope to complete the J-deite Ride in 2017 with plans of developing an eight foot model by next year and a 16 foot model by the year 2020. Before you begin saving up money for the current model, a spokesperson for Asratec said it has no immediate plans to sell the J-deite Ride commercially.
TakaraTomy previously showed off a similar project in 2013, but since then the project has progressed nicely after two years of development. Hopefully, the company will change its mind and allow fans all over to have a robot in disguise in their home.
