Turn your couch into a ride with Immersit

Immersit puts you in the middle of the action from the comfort of your couch (via Immersit)

There's nothing like sitting on the couch to enjoy an action packed movie or fast paced video game. But wouldn't it be cool to immerse yourself in what you're doing. Not with 3D technology or surround sound. What if your couch shifted with each twist, turn, and vibration? This new Kickstarter project has you covered. Immersit is a plug in device you install under you couch. It then generates high amounts of movement patterns and vibrations, such as pitches, rolls, and heaves. It can also move users side to side, up and down, and back and forth. As the name suggests, it aims to provide couch potatoes an immersive experience with their media.

How does it work? The Immersit consists of four hydraulic pads that life the corners of your couch via a central controlling “brain.” The moving pads make you couch vibrate, tilt, or rotate with various different motions. The motions are powered by another box which connects to a computer, game console, or AV device.

The team has programmed Immersit to work out of the box with specific games and movies. Currently, the device is compatible with Xbox One & 360, Playstation 3 & 4, and over 120 different games. When it comes to movies, Immersit uses a combination of different technologies to recognize media being played regardless of the device whether it be DVD, Blu Ray, or VOD. When the device recognizes the movie playing it will start moving and vibrating in conjunction with the on-screen action.

The company also offers a consumer motion platform where users can customize their own motion codes for Go Pro and 360 videos. They can then share the videos with friends and family. When not in use the pads are discreetly hidden under your couch and is risk free for your furniture according tot he company. With a device that wiggles around your couch safety is a big concern, but Immersit has taken that into consideration. The device is equipped with several sensors that will stop movement as soon as something crawls under the furniture. The movements are supposed to be smooth and subtle to make sure it won't damage the couch.

So far the device has been tested with couches and chairs weighing up to 1,100 pounds. The range of motion is estimated to be around four inches. The device is currently in its final design after building three prototypes and will start manufacturing soon. Early bird units are set to ship out in September or October. The Immersit campaign is still live and has surpassed its goal of $95,366 and brought it to $205,995. Owning one of these kits will cost you between $504 - $904. Immersit is sure to make Saturday nights indoors exciting and thrilling.

    Interesting.

I could do something similar with my airline seats I picked up a few years ago.
