With the recent arrival of our alien overlords, it seems they will give us the technology to help build their intergalactic human harvesting warehouses before we’re ultimately destroyed. Actually an Australian company has taken a different approach to the problems associated with transporting heavy materials through difficult terrain or infrastructure. Skylifter has introduced a piloted dirigible as a solution to this problem and it looks to be a safe alternative to helicopter or airplane transport. While the helicopter is limited in the amount it can carry, such as 20 tones, the saucer shaped Skylifter is capable of over 140, and has a range of up to 1,240 miles with a cruising speed of 45 knots. But why the saucer shape instead of the traditional ‘football’ shape normally found? Skylifter designed it’s dirigible to be directionless and less resistant to wind force to achieve a steady load handling, plus the design acts as a parachute as well. The control pod is situated below the craft itself to give the vehicle a greater downward center of gravity eliminating the need for stabilizers. Direction is controlled through Voith-Schneider propellers, a new design that allows thrust to be generated in any direction quickly, precisely and in a continuously variable manner, rather than traditional propellers found on common dirigibles. So the next time you look up and see a UFO abducting a house, no need to panic its probably only Skylifter.
