Rotating room

Hey guys and gals

not sure if this would be the correct place to post this or not, it's also my first post. i actually found out about he site from watching Bens videos! They're super awesome!

Any ways what I'm curious to do, I have an idea where I want to rotate a room with out the people in the room knowing that the room is rotating. It would have a maximum of 8 people in it. I know the rotational speed would have to be slow, im pretty sure that by setting up an arduino to control a large stepper motor fitted with a gear that would mesh into a ring heat,  would solve this problem, how ever what I'm curious about, would I place the base of the room on wheels? Or build some sort of track? What would be the best way to go about it?

its part of an attraction. Basically the room is going to be an elevator, I want to make it seem like magic that the elevato closed and than opened in a different room...

Thanks in advance for all of your input!

    Hi Joeh,

The human sensory system is pretty sensitive to accelerations. Rotation is a constant acceleration. Anyone moving in the rotating room would probably sense it even at the snails pace of one revolution per hour. I have been in rotating restaurants where it took an hour to rotate and all the while I felt the movement. Distraction is your best tool for making a change without being caught. I am not an expert but the best way to fool the human sensory system is to distract it or divert its attention. As far as your rotational support I would think that rubber wheels would give you the smoothest and quietest rotation. One more thing to consider, unless your room is round you will have trouble turning it from a square entry to a square exit unless those two places can move out of the way.
