Robotex is an annual robotics competition event in Estonia since 2001. The event is organized by Tallinn University of Technology in cooperation with Tartu University and The Estonian Information Technology College. The event has had many different competitions over the years including climbing a rope, volley ball and room cleaning. This year the main event will be a one on one football match between two autonomous robots. Last few years have seen a big leap in the quality and popularity of the event. Last year the event lasted two full days and was attended by over 2600 people (for comparison Estonia has a population of a little over 1 million). In addition to the competition there is also an exposition by many sponsors and technology companies. The event has always been free to all visitors and competitors.
Main goals of Robotex:
- getting young people interested in sciences, technical education and robotics;
- to become more international;
- to guarantee sustainable growth in the development of robotics (mechanics, information technologies, mechatronics);
- to exhibit Estonia’s innovative, competitive and knowledge-based developments outside the country;
- bringing those interested in technology and future engineers closer to companies.
Robotex 2011 takes place on the 26th and 27th of November of 2011 in TUT Sports Hall. During the two day event international robotics competitions with different tasks will take place. The first day of the robotics competition is planned for the new and easier tasks and the second for the competition between professional football robots. Different workshops, drawing and photo contests and the finale of “Tootearendus”, a project on product design by Tehnoloogiakool (TUT Technology School), will also take place. The event is free to all.
