Identifying a switch - not sure where best to post this question.

Hi GMan,

We will need some more info on the switch in order to find a suitable replacement.

• This looks to me a 2 position switch. Is it momentrary or does it stay switched when pushed?
• Do you know the contact configuration. It looks to be a 4PDT but its kind of hard to tell from the picture. If not how many contacts are there(Not counting the board locks on the switch frame)?
• Do you have any current and voltage ratings for the switch or know approcimately what is being put through it?
• What is the height from the board to the top of the frame and from the top of the frame to the top of the handle?

If you can get some of this info I can start looking to see what is availble and then go from there. Also if you can unsolder it from the board though not normal some manufacture do put markings on the bottom of the switch.

I was able to find something from TE Connectivity that looks close. Here is a link to the part there are links to drawings and data sheets there as well.

   I appreciate your help and apologize for the delayed response (its been a hectic week). Hopefully, I can answer your questions with enough meaningful information to find a replacement.

1. Its not a momentray switch. Its an on-off switch.

2. it seems to be 4PDT with 12 pins (2 rows of 6)

3. Unfortunately, I'm not sure current or voltage...  it the power switch for 2 sets of 4 batteries so, I would think it handle no more than 6 volts.

4. length is 21mm, Width is 8 mm, and highth is 14mm (from pcb to top of the switch, not including the solder posts). The switch handle is 12 mm from the top of the frame.

The link seems close be too small. The switch is to repair a Hasbro R2-D2 (here is a link to someone modding a R2-D2 that some more pictures of the switch and PCB towards the bottom of the page).

I haven't under soldered the switch yet, but I'll hopefully be able to this weekend, and I'll post what ever information I find.

If your switch looks like this one then alternatvly you can simply try cleaning it with Isopropol Alchol and a stiff brush (Old Toothbrush or something). you will be amazed how clean you can get it with a little elbow grease

Of course if the contacts are corroded then ou will need to replace the switch but if it is just corroded and gunked up on the outside, might just be easier to upgrade your tooth brush and put the old one to a real job

peteroakes is right you can probably fix the switch. It looks like it might be OEM for this particular application which means it will be difficult to get a replacement. Many times in the past I have removed switches like this from the circuit board, straightened the metal contact retention pins and removed the contacts and slides. Be careful with the sliding contacts as they are delicate. Use a wire brush or a typewriter eraser to clean the contacts. Since it is a momentary switch there will be a spring pushing the slide forward and you will have to be careful that it doesn't get away. After everything is clean just reverse the process and put it back together.

Thank you John and peter for your time. I think that my switch is a lot worse from Gman pictures. But I will try to remove and clean with your tips, but I am now considering to create a new one coping the original tracks.

This is how the switch is now, It s hard to put it out because screw rusty: (i think that is not possible to rapair, but in the weekend I am going to remove any way)
