How to make a cable to connect to 0.1" dual-row pins?

Former Member

I need to make some 10-pin cables to connect my own sensors to a little circuit board called the U-HID, as seen here:

news_board_diag.jpg

The board has male dual-row headers, and are divided into 10-pin (2 rows of 5 pin) blocks, labeled J1, J2, etc. in the image.

So, I want to make a little 10-conductor rainbow cable for each position.  I thought perhaps I could use an IDC connector for this, such as

http://www.elliottelectronicsupply.com/dual-row-idc-connector-10-position.html

...but I'm a little worried that I won't be able to fit two of these next to each other.

What do you think?  What's the best way to make a cable/harness to fit each of these 10-pin positions, and still be able to fit them side by side?

Hi Joe, You are correct, most IDC connectors will not fit together. You could use a large 40 pin IDC and peel the ribbon into 10 wire groupings or you could use crimp socket pins in headers which are buttable…

Hi Joe, I have used cables like these in the past to make up some custom connectors. When I want the connector to be integral I use a little glue to connect the individual connectors. http://www.ebay.com…
