Amazon robots: the coding that went into this is *insane*

Hi Guys.

As the guy responsible for site content, I spend a fair amount of time each week researching trends and topics we should invest more into here on element14. I'm currently on the hunt for cool topics in industrial automation and factory robotics. I came upon the following video which shows how Amazon's warehouse automation uses automatic pallet fetchers to fulfill customer orders. I've watched it twice already, and it still blows me away that this actually works.

I hope you enjoy watching it, too. image

Are there areas of industrial automation you'd like to learn more about, or examples of topics and content you'd like to see more of here on element14?

Let me know!

Cheers,
Sagar

I bet there are some _hilarious_ outtakes during quality assurance testing.

It all looks simple ... until you add more bots ..

It would be nice to see the method they use for communicating to each bot, how they control what is on each 'pick' point.

The bots themself are interesting and it looked like the warehouse floor was either imbedded or simply marked so they had somethign to follow.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Sagar

The industrial robots we see putting vehicles together are clever and efficient.

Have you seen/found or can source the method they use to program them to do the task.

While the parts are CAD designed, the manipulation and interaction with the jigs/vehicle isn't.

I would imagine that the majority of work went into preventing bottlenecks through route optimisation and pod location.

    Greetings Sagar,

I saw a video with a hive of quadcopters performing aerial gymnastics that were absolutely incredible. What Amazon, FedEx and others are doing is just the tip of the proverbial technology iceberg.

YouTube put a bunch of recommended videos in the right rail while I was watching your video, and this one was pretty fun: how much torture can you put a quadcopter through before it quits?
