It was interesting to see BattleBots return to American TV last week. Back in the day I used to watch the UK equivalent, Robot Wars, which I really enjoyed. BattleBots is pretty much the same program.. and my 7 year old son loved watching it for the first time today!
What I thought was a bit lacking was any insight into how the bots worked; how they control them, a bit more detail on the components, and what kind of micro-controller(?) they use. I was thinking I might spot an Arduino or something like that.. but no, hardly any shots of what goes into making them work. It's surely changed a lot since I used to watch Robot Wars in 1998-2003, but who knows.. they cover any of that
It was a bit of a missed opportunity IMO, but I guess it's primarily an entertainment show, and it doesn't fit the what they think the public wants to see. Still, I guess it did show a diverse bunch of bot makers & might help to encourage people to give it a go themselves.
What did you think of the reboot?
