stepper motor chopper driver

Hai, I have design unipolar stepper motor diver. In that when on one phase FET at chopping frequency rate, it turn on other phase FET in the same coil. The same condition is for with freewheeling and without freewheeling diodes. When freewheeling diode put, circuit draws more current than without freewheeling.

Help me for find correct problem, and how can overcome.

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kalimuthu,

not sure I've correctly understood your schema description.

    Could you add the schematic?

    Hi Kalamuthu,

From my side it is still not clear.

Where do you connect the motor coils and the related freewheeling diodes?

Are there two coils connected between +24Vdc and Ph1 (or Ph2)?

In this case the wafeform diagram should not be as you described.

If you choose to change to a standard IC there are some complete solutions form ST, the better one i found is L6470 if you are unsig it in a MCU base desing (SPI connection needed), otherwise the L6474 allow you to control it through a PWM (see http://www.st.com/internet/analog/subclass/1484.jsp)

If you prefer to continue with a discrete solution please let me know the coils connection detail to see if I can help you.

    Ciao

    Maurizio
