Perhaps it could be like a clothes line with a motorized pulley at one end.
Or it could be like a slot car (or tram) setup with wires carrying power to the motorized star.
Do you want it to continuously go back and forth or move in response to some stimulus?
What I had in mind was .. the star has its own motor and this was radio controlled at a distance.
Perhaps you could re-purpose an inexpensive RC car - mount the motor, battery and control circuit in your star and replace the drive wheel with a small pulley that runs on the cable.
Sounds good. I might try that.
