Are You Interested in IoT Sensors? Then Take a Look at the STWIN SensorTile Wireless Node Dev Kit

Sensors are the ears, eye, noses, fingers and taste of IoT systems. No one could build cyber physical systems without them.

Many dev kits are based around environmental sensors, e.g., Build your Weather stations with the Raspberry Pi or Arduino. These are great dev tools to get you started playing around with sensors.

But when you want to dig deeper into the use of professionsl grade sensors, I can think of NO BETTER dev kit than the ST Microelectronics STEVAL-STWINKT1.image

Look at the sensors that come with this handy kit:

--ultra-wide bandwidth (up to 6 kHz), low-noise, 3-axis digital vibration sensor (IIS3DWB)

--3D accelerometer + 3D Gyro iNEMO inertial measurement unit --(ISM330DHCX) with machine learning core

--ultra-low-power high performance MEMS motion sensor (IIS2DH)

--ultra-low-power 3-axis magnetometer (IIS2MDC)

--digital absolute pressure sensor (LPS22HH)

--relative humidity and temperature sensor (HTS221)

--low-voltage digital local temperature sensor (STTS751)

--industrial grade digital MEMS microphone (IMP34DT05)

--wideband analog MEMS microphone (MP23ABS1)

Vibration, motion, magnet fields, temp, and sound sensors!

There's a lot that you can do or build with all those sensors, Of course, since these are professional grade sensors, the applications come into mind are industrial such as conditioning monitoring. For example, let's say you want to monitor the vibrations emanating from a motor bearing over a long period of time. You could gather that data with this vibration sensor. Anyone who has pulled apart the wheel bearing on their car knows when a sensor goes bad it runs rough and noisy and vibrates a lot more!

I think there's a lot of possibilities using all these sensors. That's when I spoke with ST Microelectronics re was SUPER-EXCITED about launching a roadtest on this dev kit.

I looked through the documentation and it appears to be easy to set up, has wireless and battery power ability, and a nice microcontroller.  The example firmware and software should demonstrate the capabilities well.  It is worth a closer look for RoadTesters with an interest in sensors and data collection / analysis.
