Dave Jones of the  eevblog and The Amp Hour just tweeted this special chip of the week:

 

Special Purpose Chip of The Week: http://www.maxwell.com/products/microelectronics/docs/HSN1000_REV3.PDF. Pin 2 goes low when it detects a NUCLEAR EXPLOSION!

 

From the datasheet:

Maxwell Technologies’ HSN-1000 radiation-hardened Hybrid Nuclear Event Detector (NED) senses ionizing radiation pulses generated by a nuclear event, such as the detonation of a nuclear weapon

  • Just what I always wanted.

     

    Actually, after growing up doing the duck and cover drills at school and living near one of the A#1  targets, I decided that the only thing to do in case of a nuclear event was to go outside and watch the show.

     

    I am curious about where they tested the device and when, but other than that I cannot see a large demand for this chip.
