High Accuracy High Precision Gyro

Hi,

 

1.     I have a huge metal block which rotates clockwise as well as anticlockwise. The speed of movement is not so high. However there is a huge shock which passes through the block sometimes.

 

2.     I need to measure the amount of angular movement in degrees of the metal block be it clockwise or anticlockwise.

 

3.     The accuracy I require is very high i.e. of the order of less than 5 minutes(1 degree/12). Also a high precision level is required.

 

4.     The cost limit onto me is Rs 50,000/- or less than $800 dollars.

  • Hi Shrimaan,

    How about a series of mirrors around the shaft of the block and a couple lasers that are reflected and projected onto a series of sensors. The further the sensors are away from the shaft and the tighter they are spaced the more resolution you will have. I propose 2 lasers as this will give you continuity as the beam from one laser slips out of range you can have the second laser position at the middle of its tracking range. The sequence of the light hitting the sensors will indicate CW or CCW rotation.
