Question regarding the wiring of Sensotec Pressure sensor

Hi Friends,

This is Ali, with the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, Canada. We have Pressure sensors  (Sensotec-FPG/C798 : 3000psig) in our laboratory. These sensors have 4 wires.

Would you please help me have an electrical schematic of the wiring? I am supposed to connect it to a DAQ board, and need to know which of these 4 wires (i.e. black, green, white, red) are ground, positive pole and negative pole? I found the following two wires are connected together:

- white and red,

- black (alone),

- green (alone).

which of them is ground? which is positive pole and which is negative pole? Do I have to connect the negative pole to the ground by means of a jumper while connecting it to DAQ board?

    Thanks for sending the link. As I am in  mechanical engineering, I am not sure about some concepts. In page 41 / 484 of this catalogue, the followings are defined:

    RED:   +   Excitation

    BLACK:  - Excitation

    GREEN:  -  Output

    WHITE:   +   Output

     

    For my case, red and white are connected together. So I am three wires other side: 1) White and Red, 2) Black, 3) Green.

    Now, which of them is defined as ground, and which one is Negative? I think the white and red is positive.

    For connecting it to the DAQ board, I need to know which one is positive, ground and negative.

    Hi Michael,

    Thank you for your support. I found the following info on the sensor:

     

    SENSOTEC

    FPG

    Order No.: FPG1DN,2D5D6A

    Part No.: 060-C798-03

    Supply: 9-28 VDC

    Output: 0-5 VDC

    There is something odd about this. Maybe the connector at the top was custom wired. Unscrew the black cap and take a photo of the cable connector (looking at the pins) and the transducer connector side by side. The red and white, since they are wired together, would seem to be the negative references (ground), but that contradicts the datasheet.

    There are 6 wires on the transducer side. but only 4 wires (i.e. black, green, white, red) are in other side !!!!. Please see the following photos. Thanks for your time.

    According to the datasheet:

    A is the +Supply

    B is the -Supply

    C is the -Output 0 Vdc to 5 Vdc

    D is the +Output

     

    So Black is the positive supply,

    White is the negative supply (ground),

    Red is the negative output (ground),

    and Green is the positive output.

     

    This explains why the red and white are tied together, since they are both intended to be the common or ground. In the end, red and white are ground, black is the input voltage, and green is the output voltage. Here is the table from the datasheet:

     

    You should double check this information before hooking it up, this only represents my opinion and I won't be liable if it gets wired wrong (I had to throw this in here to cover my butt).
