Leak Detection Switch

colecago

I need to implement a saline leak sensor/switch.  We want to know if saline has leaked out of its container onto the floor of our enclosed machine.  I could just sit contacts into it and look at the conductivity, but I don't know about materials and corrosion etc.  It would be nice if I could just get a liquid detection switch to input to our PLC.

Any suggestions?  I found a nice one that used optical reflection/absorption to tell, but those are not available as far as I could tell.

Thanks!

There are a number of "salt taster" circuits available on the web.

If you use good quality stainless steel for the contacts, you should not run into any problems with corrosion.

I would say that is the least cost for benefit solution.

I have not seen any photo-optic sensors for this application, but then I am not fully up to date on the technology.

    I hope this helps,

    DAB

We'll look into this if we have to, for this project we are trying to avoid custom electronics for ease of replacement on the users end.  We are thinking maybe an off the shelf alarm (like at Menards), doesn't tie into the system, but still gives notification of leaks (audible usually)

Take a look on this product:

    http://www.panasonic-electric-works.com/peweu/en/html/28287.php

Runs also without controller and link directly to your PLC.

    Chemically resistant housing (PFA)

I'll look into the panasonic one more, that looks really promising.
