Help: Solution for Detecting the No of persons sitting on a seat

Hi,

I need help on detecting the number of persons sitting on a seat of short length. The way of sitting is same like we sit on a bike.. Please share your ideas after that i will discuss the ways implemented so far. I am limited by the knowledge in sensors Help will be appreciated.

    This sounds like an EE senior design project to me, am I correct? Edit: Maybe too advanced for a senior design, so a Master's Thesis?

    Iam working on a project that will detect the number of persons seated on the bike, and if the number of persons exceed 2 then it will immobilize the engine, The Challenge is to detect the number of perons seated. you can see the link for reference of the Bike seat http://www.heromotocorp.com/en-in/the-bike/two-wheeler-motorcycles.html . By the Bike i Mean a Two Seated Motor Cycle.  if you have any better solution apart of detecting by the persons sitting on SEAT kindly enrich with that.

    The government regulation is 2 persons but sometimes people go with morethan 2 posing risk this is the project.. i think i have elaborated all.;)

    Okay that is clearer.

    I can remember as a kid being the sixth person an a motorcycle - we weren't all on the seat though.

    For you application, it will be difficult to definitively determine numbers using seat sensors because of the variability in body sizes and positions.

    You may be able to detect the number of people by the loading sequence - discrete steps in additional weight.

    Another method would be to have the system "learn" the weight of the normal driver, so the problem of whether additional weight is one or more people is reduced by eliminating one big variable.

    Another possibility is to detect when the second set of foot pegs receives a load - this indicates a second person has boarded - any additional steps in weight are either the driver sitting down or an extra passenger. This can be discriminated by which end of the seat gets loaded.
