Please help me to choose cable to extend TO-92 sensor legs

Hello E/E Engineers,

I am in the way of choosing cables to extend this TO-92 type temperature sensor legs so that I can place it under the target battery or even extend it into a refrigerator / freezer.

MCP-9700A

I know there is out-of-box 1-wire sensor packaged with long cable lead but the part`s origin is in question.  I must create this by myself so that I have the part`s origin documents.

That isn't a problem. You can calculate exponentials on pretty much any modern micro but its a little slow. If you want to conserve power or time then precalculate third order polynomial coefficients from…

Since the drain wire is connected to the shielding, it's more of a ground than a shield, but since the other wires are twisted pair it should work..

HKPhysicist You can always go with one of the Maker's best friend - hot glue. That's what I used way back in 2021 during Build Inside The Box . I'm not sure how much it will shrink in the cold, but at…

    Hello Friends,

I am on the way of composing my temperature sensor with extended cables.  I have chosen these 2 components:

    https://hk.element14.com/microchip/mcp9700a-e-to/thermistor-linear-0-01v-c-to-92/dp/1332164

    https://hk.element14.com/van-damme/268001cl/cable-1pair-black-per-m/dp/2425036

    These are my planned steps:

    1. To solder the 3 legs of the MCP-9700A sensor to the 3 separate cores of my chosen signal cable.
    2. I am looking for an insulating sealant or adhesive to seal all 3 solder joints and exposed cable leads in one step.
    3. Let the sealant or adhesive to dry.
    4. Finally, seal all the 3 joints with a wider heat-shrink tube to protect the signal cable and MCP-9700A leads.

Right now, I am stuck at step 2.  Could you recommend me an insulating sealant or adhesive suitable for step 2?  Fast drying (for example, within 5 minutes) is preferred.

Thanks for your valuable experiences.  TophatBlush

HKPhysicist You can always go with one of the Maker's best friend - hot glue.  That's what I used way back in 2021 during Build Inside The Box.  I'm not sure how much it will shrink in the cold, but at low volumes of glue, it shouldn't be that much.

    Hello Friend,

Thanks for your opinion.  I am glad you also use MCP9700.  It is cheap with good precision. Slight smile
