Inductive Sensing Possibilities

Inductive sensing offers new possibilities for the detection of conductive materials. Among its many uses, it can be utilised for:

  1. Detection – for example, a washing machine could conceivably detect if someone accidentally left change in their trouser pockets.
  2. Control – because of the unique sensitivity of inductive sensors, they could be used in the creation of precision controls.
  3. Input – rather than have distinct metal keypad with buttons, a flat metal surface with an inductive sensor could perform the same function; this approach implies less parts to go wrong.
  4. Measurement – these sensors can be used to detect conductive materials in an area or on a person.

Could this be used to measure the normal velocity of a surface in the audio frequency range 50 - 10,000Hz?

If you had to climb in and out of a washing machine before each flight that might make airport security more interesting

If they then turned it on, they wouldn't need the sick bags on the plane.image

    Well put Victor.

My washing machine uses a metal drum, so I can see the change detection working well.

At work we have these biological monitors that usually detect things faster than the computer, and the domestic monitor at home works well for my washing.

... less parts to go wrong.

... let me see, a simple switch based device, or a board full of electronics that is sensitive to variances in temperature, users fingers and the amount of metal rings they have on, or the poor old person with Arthritis that is unable to properly open their hand.

I think I'll plug for the keypad each time.

I love Airport scanners, you now have to empty your pockets, take off your belt, and shoes if you wear safety shoes, as well as any jewellery.

We need one at every public entrance to a building.....

    Mark

What is the purpose of this document? It could lead to something from TI, as they have their LDC1000 inductance measurement chip
