If a woodchuck could chuck chucks, how many chucks would a woodchuck chuck?

The curious case of mini chucks galore....

A little light tool blog - part of my new year's reorg activities ...

All my mini chucks are now in a designated container.

Do you have a favorite mini chuck and what do you use it for?

Now what about utility knives and glue guns?

    They are known as pin vices this side of the pond, and possibly have collets instead of chucks sometimes. I only have a few : ( 

    For the taps, the horizontal bar becomes useful on metal, partly for the torqueness, but also for the perpendicularity and angle-count (for hand taps). It's easier to keep it straight when there is a long horizontal bar. I use the one in the photo below (for plastic, if it's not going in deep, it's probably less chance of snapping the tap without the long horizontal bar):

    (battery shown for size comparison. This tap holder length looks extreme, but this is for small taps (e.g. 2mm or 3mm diameter), and the long length makes it easier to eyeball it straight during turning, plus to count the angle turned.

    The blue one on the right is not important, it's just there to show the opposite, i.e. a die holder for making threads.

    I use my drill press about 100 times more than any of the mills or lathes (and just to point out, the mills and lathes are all tiny formats, if only they were full size machines).  I find that drill press is one of the most used tools in my shop.

    I am envious of shops that have lathes and mills - I'm limited to a drill press.

  • On the mini chuck side of things, I don't quite have nearly the depth in my collection as yours.  I do have a container to hold them along with my exacto and scalpel handles and blades.

    But when I move out to my lathes and mills, I have a pretty extensive collection of chucks, include 3" and 4" lathe chucks (both 3 and 4 jaws), several drill chucks and other part/tool holders.

    When it comes to favorites, the black drill chuck (along side of my blue scalpel) is a recent addition to my collection and is currently my go to drill bit holder.  On the utility knives, the above holder is again, just a small part of the collection.  Thanks to my son, I now have several safety box cutters and other cutters that he receives as samples from one of the vendors that he works with.

    Glue guns, not so much.  I have one or two around that my daughter left when she headed out to college and her career, but I don't find many needs for them.

    I think I've currently only got tap lever mini chucks, unless you count Dremel type chucks.

    I'd quite like a micro lathe however and that would be an excellent excuse to accumulate more chucks.
