"...power obtainable at any point of the universe."
(Nikola Tesla - *1856 / †1943)
The idea of wireless power is not new to the electronic scene. Nikola Tesla, a Serbian inventor, was convinced that there will be a world with "power obtainable at any point of the universe".
Tesla was born on July the 10th, in 1856. Over more than 150 years later, we are a step closer to his vision by introducing the Wireless Power Consortium.
As the world moves closer, the demand for flexibility and freedom is gaining more and more importance. Dealing with battery-powered devices throughout our daily lives, the need of wire-bound chargers is getting out of style.
The Wireless Power Consortium creates independence from any manufacturer or brand regarding charging your device. Based on Tesla´s ideas, electricity is transferred wirelessly without losing its efficiency.
Therefore two coils are needed, a transmitter coil and a receiver coil. An alternating current in the transmitter coil generates a magnetic field which induces a voltage in the receiver coil. This voltage can be used to power a mobile device or charge a battery. For energy-efficient power transfer the phone must be able to shut down the transmitter when the battery is fully charged. The phone, therefore, needs to send control signals to the charging station.
Tesla liked the idea of "free energy" available for everyone and through his innovations and inventions he enriches and influences our life, up to this day.
The Wireless Power Revolution is taken to the next level carrying on Tesla´s Heritage.
