Roger Yiu’s Smart Power Strip. (via kickstarter)
I needed this in my Goldie Fishwater – Remote control aquarium project!
More people are moving to acquire smart homes or outfitting their existing abodes with automated home technology. What’s a home, however, if you can’t control your appliances or other devices when you’re at work or out of town? To overcome that specific issue, inventor Roger Yiu designed his Smart Power Strip that allows users to interact with their appliances or other devices plugged into the unit. To put it in simpler terms, the Strip not only lets users monitor their devices but also turn them on/off as well as program them for various functions. Users can use the device to automate a room(s), such as controlling the lighting, cordless phones, heating units, TVs, gaming systems and computers. The Power Strip houses dual 2.4GHz built-in Wi-Fi connections as well as Home Automation MESH technology that monitors the devices connected to the strip (power consumption, on/off, etc.) and sends that information in real-time to the cloud. Users can then access that information using any Android- or iOSequipped mobile device, in fact, they can independently control devices plugged into the Strip’s four outlets. If that wasn’t enough control for some users, the Smart Power Strip has the ability to control other Strips (slaves) outfitted with MESH network technology, which allows users to control other appliances in devices in other rooms as well. Roger’s Smart Power Strip is being funded on Kickstarter to get funds for production costs with a goal of $100,000. He’s already reached the halfway point with over 24 days to go, and if he’s successful, plans on releasing more home automation sensors that will work with the Power Strip, including a motion detector, door/window contacts, smoke/CO detectors and even a key fob.
