What's The Reality of 5G Today?

The 5G (mmwave) spectrum has fantastic bandwidth and low latency and it will do some amazing stuff for the consumer. But with the super high frequencies (20-60 GHz) of 5G comes a low coverage range and building penetration is poor (that is, it doesn't deal with walls too well). 4G and 5G will coexist; however 5G is different from 4G technology and much more complex.

  •      From use of the internet since 1995, I know that regardless of data transmission maximum speeds, most of the time I spend online is not sending any data, but waiting for a server, and routers to move the data. I question that the average user surfing the internet will receive any significant improvement in throughput. Data hungry applications like streaming video will benefit, as will those who send and receive large amounts of data, such as video networks, and industrial data networks. For the average smartphone user, I am sceptical of it being a good ROI. I will wait until i see it in action before I get excited.
