For wireless communication, what is the most important thing we care about? What is the biggest obstacle we meet? I think capacity and quality is always the firstly-considered and endless-required target. As the 3rd generation communication or even 4th generation communication system is coming to us, a technology of boosting wireless band named MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) becomes a hot topic.
MIMO is a radio link between multiple antennas at both transmitter and receiver side. It sometimes refers to spatial multiplexing, for it uses a spatial dimension method to carry information instead of the time and frequency division method. The antennas at each end combine the received information together through the communication circuit, so that the errors can be minimized, data speed can be optimized and multi-path fading can be avoided.
However, because it is inevasible to have multiple transmitting and receiving antennas, the cost of the RF path and the complexity of the decoding will increase. There are many other issues such as the method of modeling and estimating the divided channels, algorithm of antenna selection and room for antennas at the mobile terminal.
How do you think about this technology and could it be the core technology in the future wireless communication? Do you have any opinion on these technologies that can improve the quality of communication and boost the utilization rate of frequency spectrum? Let’s discuss this topic freely.
