Life in general is not perfect. We lead increasingly more of a busy lifestyle and as a result don’t have enough time to eat a decent meal let alone have the time to count the calories we’re cramming down our throats. Sure you can go into a fast food restaurant and read the calorie count in that massive cheese burger your about to consume, but that would require you to actually stop texting or put your BFF on hold, and everybody knows that’s not going to happen. So what do we do? How can we multi-task this problem? And more importantly how can we slim our waistlines and still tell our friends about what our other friends are doing? Well worry no more! NTT Communications in Japan have a new app that lets you take a picture of what you’re about to chow down on and compares the color and shape to 100,000 different foods stored on a server to give you a calorie count. Not only that but the app even adjusts for portion size and adjusts the count accordingly. The app works really well at identifying the typical Japanese fast food cuisine such as ramen, but has problems with international dishes like borscht or wienerschnitzel. Obviously refinements will have to be made before the apps release. A beta version will be available for testing purposes in January.
