HC-05 Bluetooth Module

Are there any repercussions for using the HC-05 module in a commercial product? I noticed it seems to be intended for the maker community, but it's also a fraction of the cost of most bluetooth modules. Why is it cheaper? Are there hidden costs? FCC approval? Licensing fees? Any input is appreciated.

  • There are lots of manufacturers making these modules. Some definitely claim FCC and CE certification and some show their certificate, but some don't mention it, so it is likely some have not gone through the certification process. The clones are so close to being identical, it is likely they could pass certification, but you might have to do it yourself. Usually any product that has been certified will be clearly labelled and the manufacturer can supply supporting documentation.
