USB connectivity over distances

Why does a USB cable hit limits at a length of 5 meters & how would one extend transmission over distances exceeding 10's of meters with USB connectivity?

Hi, The USB specification defines a maximum propagation time over a cable. By doing the "math" you end up with about 5m maximum. The only to expand this is to plug this cable into a powered USB hub. USB specification specifies maximum 5 hubs therefore I guess a USB device cannot be more than (6 x 5m) 30m away from the host. regards
