what does MT abrivates in MT8870 ic
Guessing the naming conventions of companies is difficult. However, I would venture to guess "M" is for Microchip and "T" is for transmitter.

I beleive the chip is from MITEL, the MT is from the first parts of the founders names: Michael Cowpland and Terry Matthews.
