From what I have seen, being a HAM is more of an affliction than a hobby.
I think if you want to introduce the group to the technologies currently available you might find some fellow enthusiasts in the group. You might want to post in the Wireless group, you might find a lot of the technology can be used across both applications.
Meanwhile, let me be the first to welcome you to Element 14 and encourage you to participate where ever you feel comfortable and get to know the group. I have only been a member for a couple of months and I have been introduced to some very creative people among the membership.
