NXP is on a major campaign to push its new "GreenChip" technology. The tech allows for every light in an installation to have its own local IP address, smart powering controls built in, and gives whatever light technology (CFL & SSL) new capabilities. A besides being more efficient with power, the GreenChip lets users dim any GreenChip luminary from a smartphone, computer, or other internet connected devices. The best part, all the light are controlled wirelessly. JetNet-IP network software is the backbone of the system. JetNet-IP is a 6LoWPAN mech-under tree network that is ultra-low power IEEE 802.15.4 networking for consumer and industrial users.
I think this is a fantastic way to control lighting, but more importantly, low energy usage. My only critic would be, what is the wireless signal is being interrupted, block, etc for a certain area. That light would not obey my every command. Would the system keep trying until the bulb is responding? I need to know more.
If you are in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA from May 17th to the 19th, catch NXP and their GreenChips at the International Lightfair 2011. If you go, let us know.
