近年来,接入网所承载的主体业务正逐渐由语音、数据向视频、图像转变。这就需要高速、对称、大范围(20km)的接入网来连接城域网/主干网和用户网。传统的接入网已逐渐不能满足这种需求,而光纤由于其近乎无限的带宽被人们认为是接入网媒质的不二之选,光纤到户(FTTH)也成为满足带宽暴涨的终极选择。为了充分利用光纤和设备资源,节省运行和维护费用,人们选择点到多点的无源光网络(PON)作接入,而在此基础上实现传统电信网、计算机网和有线电视网融合的“三网合一”则是进一步降低成本的可行、有效的方案,也是网络发展的大趋势。

现阶段,CATV信号多采用模拟调制,载噪比(CNR)是衡量系统性能的重要指标。当CNR>50dB时,人眼觉察不到图像的损伤,我国相关标准规定CATV用户接收端的CNR不小于43dB。而根据模拟调制系统的相关理论,为了在接收端得到高的CNR,必须减少线路传输过程中的CNR劣化,提高入接收机的光功率(-6~2dBm,典型值为-1~0dBm 1550nm),即提高局端CATV信号光的发射功率。在实际三网合一应用中,局端CATV信号的处理常如图2所示(对应于图1红色虚线框中部分)。

若考虑参与合波的承载CATV业务的1550nm信号光光功率为16dBm,当图1和图2中N>8时,光放大器OA的总输出功率应>27dBm(假设Splitter与连接器的固有损耗为2dB),这对于常规的EDFA来说,无论技术还是成本都已经非常困难。武汉光迅科技股份有限公司开发的高功率光纤放大器(HFA)采用铒镱共掺双包层光纤和侧向包层泵浦技术,其最大输出功率达36dBm,且单位mW的价格明显低于普通EDFA。表1为集成HFA和1310+1490/1550WDM的OPAMS的性能指标。

放大器的各项指标中,噪声指数NF是决定放大器所引入的系统CNR劣化量的关键参数。由表中数据可以发现,HFA的NF与功放EDFA相当。此外,HFA的光纤不长,系统的CSO与CTB不会有明显下降,我们的实验数据也表明HFA引入的系统CSO/CTB代价与常规EDFA无明显区别。因此,HFA和基于HFA的OPAMS能满足光节点数较大的CATV系统和三网合一系统的应用要求,能有效地降低成本,以弥补常规EDFA的不足。

在信息爆炸的时代,为了满足人们不断增长的带宽要求,“光进铜退”已是必然趋势。随着光纤向用户逐步推进(直至FTTH),系统的功率预算必定越来越高。因此我们相信,光迅的高功率光纤放大器会在光网络的持续发展中有一番作为。
