PRESS RELEASE - National Semiconductor - To Speak at Solar Power International about Current Limitations of PV Systems and Challenges of International Expansion

Oct. 19, 2009 – Leaders of National Semiconductor’s SolarMagic team will address key issues facing the photovoltaic solar industry--international expansion and panel-level innovations--at the upcoming Solar Power International Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Additionally, National will hold daily product demonstrations of its award-winning SolarMagicTm power optimizers at the company’s exhibition booth. SolarMagic was recently honored as a runner-up in the prestigious Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Awards. Previously, SolarMagic also received the 2009 InterSolar Award in the Photovoltaics category for its ability to boost solar power output when systems are impaired.

WHO:   National Semiconductor SolarMagic Team Leaders

WHAT:  Aaron Thurlow, Sales and Services Manager for National’s Renewable Energy Business Unit, will be speaking on the “Ins and Outs of International Expansion” session at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 27.

Ralf Muenster, Director for National’s Renewable Energy Business Unit, will address “Innovations in Inverters and System Controllers” at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 28.

WHERE:  Solar Power International 2009 Expo and Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center

WHEN:  Oct. 27- 29

Members of National’s Renewable Energy Business Unit will be available throughout the conference to showcase the benefits of SolarMagic and discuss how the power optimizers mitigate the detrimental effects of partial shading and panel mismatch on photovoltaic (PV) system performance.

Daily presentations include a product demonstration, which will provide an overview of the technology and discussion of third-party testing results; a technical update; and several special presentations on Wednesday, including a generalized address catered to homeowners and other members of the public during “Open to the Public Night.”

The full schedule of events is as follows:

Tuesday, Oct. 27

11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:10 p.m., “SolarMagic 101”

Offers an introduction to SolarMagic power optimizers, which provide new ways of optimizing PV system performance in real-world situations. The presentation will include a discussion of recently released third-party testing results from Photon International and other SolarMagic installations worldwide, and illustrate how SolarMagic expands the rooftop solar market.

5:15 p.m., “To Optimize or Not To Optimize?”

Technical dive into solar panel mismatch mitigation includes experiments conducted jointly with the California Energy Commission (CEC) as well as a 360 degree view of a complete power optimization strategy.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:10 p.m., “SolarMagic 101”

12 p.m., “National’s New SolarMagic Power Optimization Solutions”

Provides attendees with a sneak preview of the newest additions to the SolarMagic product suite.

6:15 p.m., 7:15 p.m., “SolarMagic for the Real World”

A presentation for the general public offers attendees information on how to “go solar,” as well as educating them on the problems affecting rooftop systems and how SolarMagic boosts overall system performance and reliability.

Thursday, Oct. 29

11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:10 p.m., “Solar Magic 101”
