PRESS RELEASE - ANALOG DEVICE - ANALOG DEVICE S’ 6-CHANNEL VIDEO FILTER ENABLES HIGH-DEFINITION MEDIA PLAYERS TO ACHIEVE SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY

- ADI’s ADA4424-6 reconstruction filter with on-chip charge pump requires only a +3.3-V supply to deliver excellent component video characteristics in today’s performance-driven consumer multimedia equipment.

Norwood, MA (10/20/2009) - Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications, today introduced a high-performance 6-channel video reconstruction filter that allows designers of consumer media players and professional video systems to easily filter and drive video signals ranging from standard to high definition. The ADA4424-6 features three SD (standard definition) and three ED/HD (enhanced/high definition) channels and an exceptionally flat frequency response, providing 0.1-dB passband flatness with no peaking, which is required by 1080p high-definition-compliant media players and recorders.

The luma channels of the ADA4424-6 feature four distinct modes for detecting and cancelling dc-input offset voltages up to 1.1 V, and there is no dc offset at the output pins. The ADA4424-6 fully supports S1/S2 signaling defined by the EIA CPR-1202 specification and the D-connector interface defined in EIAJ CP-4120 standard.

The new filter’s SD channels operate flat to 6.75 MHz and include two fifth-order Butterworth filters for SD filtering. The SD section also includes internal summation of Y/C channels for composite-video baseband signal output. The ED/HD channels are composed of three fifth-order Butterworth filters and operate within +0.1 dB peaking typically, out to 13.5 MHz and 30 MHz.

The new filter features an integrated charge pump that allows the outputs to swing up to 1.4-V below ground, eliminating the need for large coupling capacitors. The output drivers on the ADA4424-6 feature rail-to-rail outputs with a fixed gain of 6.2 dB. Each output is capable of driving two double-terminated 75-ohm cables simultaneously. The filter/buffer section operates from a single 3.3-V supply. The device includes a dedicated 5-V supply pin used for D connector and S1/S2 signaling support.
