Hello everyone. Hope all are well and safe. This be hard times.
Welcome to another update of keeping the Astronauts feed and alive !
This week I've noted that there was some condensation inside the greenhouse. I was not expecting that for several reasons, but the main one is this is not a tight seal. There's an opening above, where all the Electronics are. The temperature inside is always higher than outside, but this wasn't there the day before yesterday... Don't know what could it be.
Vegetables
The beans are growing a lot and I had to trim them or else they don't get light (and there's just not enough space)..They look like ghosts:
Sadly, some beans are getting sick, but not all. The following photo shows some things that are appearing on the stems of the beans. I don't know what they are, but this doesn't seem natural.
EDIT: This is a disease called "Bean rust - Uromyces appendiculatus" . It is caused by a fungus that was spread by air.. WT*... ? How did it came here ? In space this wouldn't happen - I think.
I removed them from the hydroponics. The roots were brown and sick.. Hope it doesn't spread to other plants..
All the others are doing just fine, but growing slowly.. Since November, 2 months have passed (uau, already..). I'm in the Northern Hemisphere, and now it's winter. I have the "1 meter of PI" in my garage, away from the sun and the cold outside. The temperature inside the greenhouse never drops below 10 degrees, but still...
The lettuce is really developing well and soon I think I can harvest some ! Can't wait.
The bell peppers are slowly growing, but I knew it would be so. The other vegetables are also growing slowly.
Since I'm keeping the project going, when the weather outside presents itself more pleasing and warm, I'm moving this outside - at least will save the lights electricity bill - and there's no better light source than the sun!
I wish you could smell the earthy scent that comes from the hydroponics. It's really really awesome (for those who like it).
Space Vegetables Client : Program
I'm still experiencing some glitches, but not in the code. The code works and does everything it is supposed to do. This time, I think that's the Python executable that is crashing (or the schedule function of Python), but without any warnings whatsoever... Every once in a while, it just stops executing the commands to turn on the pumps (air and water) and updating the values. Need to investigate the scheduler of Python.
Time lapse.
Here's the time lapse from the very beginning until now showing the Vegetables growing.
