Hello everyone!
Another blog about waterproof connectors, and another tough test I might say. Until now, I have tried to see what results I get with these connectors in heavy conditions, high humidity, let's say, but I rather accelerated this process and after assembling all the parts I immersed the case in water.
I know from the forum that there were other people who had some problems in this regard, the infiltration of water.
I had to do a little work on the RJ45 plug because the screw in the plug broke during the first assembly attempt, probably because the pitch of the thread did not match. Finally, with the help of a friend who has the right tools, I rethreaded the socket and used longer screws.
At the first attempt, I did not manage to properly seal the area around the RJ45 plug, and a lot of water seeped in, but now I tried again and I can say that things have improved. It's like I still see a bubble here and there, but the water has not infiltrated like in the first attempt.
In the next step, I also added wires, so that I can see how well those plastic nuts from the plugs seal, how well they tighten on the wires, because it is a rubber seal that closes on the cable sheath.
I put wires on the plugs that I can use for this challenge, that is, plugs that will be connected to the LattePanda board. I put a wire on the USB plug, and another wire on the MRD plug with 4 positions.
To make things a little more interesting, I put an LED on each wire, so when I put the case in water, if I don't notice water seeping into the plugs, I'll test if the LEDs light up. It is quite clear that water and electronic components do not get along.
I also have two videos: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TckZrc8hhkMgboSv8Sc4vRG_OYHctfIc/view?usp=sharing and https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VGnF1U6phFCEljB06dSKxIWDmIMFfXT0/view?usp=sharing
As you can see in the video, no short circuit occurred, the LEDs did not burn out, even if the entire case is in water.
Anyway, under the conditions in which I proposed to use this enclosure, the problem of immersion in water will never arise, the work environment is not a swimming pool. Even so, it is not 100% safe.
That's about it for now. Another blog is coming.
Thank you. Have a nice day!
