Design Challenge Prizes - What Do You Want?

nlarson

For those of you who have applied to compete in a Design Challenge at element14 Community what prizes did you feel motivated you the most to sign up? If you haven't applied, what prizes would motivate you the most to sign up and compete?  What prizes would you like to see that haven't been offered yet?  Does a goodie bag of products get you motivated? How about a chance to meet and spend a day with your electronics engineering "celebrity" or maybe mentoring sessions from an industry expert?

Please share your thoughts below to help us make prizes better for future Design Challenges.  (cc: Members Top Members RoadTests & Reviews element14Dave)

Thanks!

Perhaps another question to ask is: how many prizes ? Having more chances to win something may motivate competitors more to actually complete the challenge. For example, the Sudden Impact challenges has…

Thanks for the very interesting question.

It appears that a highly valued prize do make more people sign up, but whether that gets a better outcome is debatable, and we've had conversations regarding prizes awarded to those not sticking to the rules.

For some of the Design Challenges the product and budget is a prize on its own, and in many cases it is necessary due to the wide range of applicants and their financial standing.

It is unfortunate that despite all the offering 100% completion is not always achieved for one reason or another.

I am very pleased with the Nexus Tablet I received, but going forward I think vouchers/credit for your local element14 store might be better.

If the sponsors wanted to offer their product, then again a voucher for the winner to choose products he/she is interested in might be more appropriate.

element14 is a global arena, so meeting and spending a day might be hard to organise  ... nice idea but limited application.

Some of the design Challenges have been quite advanced, and while it has tackled some very interesting problems, it has a rather narrow application.

Having more generalised challenges that are applicable to more of the xxx,000 members and using some of the more common hardware could give a much wider audience.

It also needs to use products that are available across the globe. The Forget Me Not was great, but the EnOcean modules aren't readily available, so it is of limited use.

Edit ...opps it looks like when element14 froze it saved both entries ...sorry.
