Design Challenge Prizes - What Do You Want?

For those of you who have applied to compete in a Design Challenge at element14 Community what prizes did you feel motivated you the most to sign up? If you haven't applied, what prizes would motivate you the most to sign up and compete?  What prizes would you like to see that haven't been offered yet?  Does a goodie bag of products get you motivated? How about a chance to meet and spend a day with your electronics engineering "celebrity" or maybe mentoring sessions from an industry expert?

  • My personal motivation is not so much then prizes at the end of the challenge but the materials given to entrants. Seeing the high value prizes is nice, but knowing that I will receive some nice dev boards if I am successful in entering is great motivation as it garuntees me some return on my effort. Including more parts than needed for the challenge is a great way to do this as it also allows multiple approaches for people to tackle the challenge. For example, the inclusion of both an LED and motor sheild in the enchanted objects challenge allowed me to include a nice bachlight in my project after I managed to remove the need for the motor sheild, and the Arduino Uno that was supplied is now used regularly for other projects. A finishers prize, as mentioned earlier, does also seem like a great idea. Orphaned projects are very sad, and anything that reduces the quantity of them is definitely a plus in my book.

      One other small thing regarding the main prizes, I personally do not particularly like apple devices, and so a macbook is not a great incentive for me. I value the upgradability and modification opportunities offered by Windows and Linux far more than the nice design of apple products.
