There is no major progress from my last post. I'm waiting on parts. I mentioned previously that I used a portion of my budget to stock general parts like:

  • Resistors
  • Capacitors
  • Inductors
  • Fuses
  • Connectors
  • Diodes
  • Transistors
  • and the like

However, I waited until my second order to purchase these items because I needed to acquire the major components of my design first. Here I should add an obligatory kudos to dragonstyne (Steve) for his insightful comment to me when I revealed my initial Gantt Chart (project timeline)image

He was completely correct, and I think his comment shows his experience in procurement. I think everyone involved in RoadTests has noticed the comments about heavy volumes at the warehouse and expected delays. Delays are a part of engineering, and a good engineering plan can be adjusted to account for delays. The guy I work with just ordered some vacuum pumps and the lead time is 1 month. It didn't phase him a bit and he adjusted the timeline so everything will still be on schedule. However, I think my inexperience in project planning shines through here because my project doesn't have this quality. I've been working in industry for 1 year and 4 months now, and none of my projects have been on-time.

If I recall correctly, somewhere between my first and second order Newark initiated the same day shipping policy. I think this may be causing the RoadTest delays, but that's pure speculation. There are 15 days left in the challenge, and I haven't been able to work on the air conditioning switcher yet. I want to produce a document for this design as well, so I have to decide when to stop designing and start writing. The purpose of the document is to completely, and transparently release my work into the public domain.

Michael, you are a clever fellow and I'm sure you will find a way to improvise until, hopefully soon, supply catches up.

    Thanks for the kind words.

That's a bummer, especially when it's out of your control ...

I hope you still manage to finish most of your project without it!

I've been compiling my list. Every time I go to build something I realize I should have ordered something else image.

    Hi Michael,

Pretty impressive to see a gantt chart : )

It was good that you did stock up on the essentials anyway, nothing worse than having to pause a project for want of a generic diode or resistor. I keep a basic spreadsheet (not extremely accurate, but good enough) so I can remember what I already have.

Good luck with the next couple of weeks!!
