Make Life Accessible - ELapShelf - Getting it all together - Blog 8

The gears on the shelf are not working very well.  I need to add bearings to the inside shafts to lower the drag and torque on the motor.

Lining up gears with just shafts in holes in the wood is a bit tricky.

The current solution looks like this:

For the next blog I'm hoping to be able to show a video of the shelf operating.

    You are putting a lot of mechanical stress on your pivot point.

     

    I can see how your implementation would easily become unbalanced and increase the resistance to the turning motion.

     

    I would suggest adding a vertical member to the shelf and using a large hinge to take all of the stress of a loaded shelf.

     

    You could then just use a simple lever to move the shelf in and out.

    The oak trim arm already had the groves cut in it. The rest is all hand made.

    The picture was taken on my hardwood floor.  Yes, I like wood projects.
