Help with XADC Minized ports for ADC External Multiplexer

javagoza

I'm planning to design an external ADC 16:2 multiplexer board for the two channel 12-bit 1MSPS ADC on the XADC Minized Zynq

image

I have seen in the schematic that I can access the AD0P, AD0N, AD8P and AD8N ports from the headers for the Arduino Shield, the pins ARDUINO_A2, ARDUINO_A3, ARDUINO_A4, ARDUINO_A5
The ARDUINO_A2 pin is only connected to the Zynq Bank 35 but

  • ARDUINO_A3 and ARDUINO_A4 are both connected to the gate of two BSS138 N-CHANNEL MOSFET for controlling the bi-element PL-LED. As I will use both input channels as unipolar those pins will be connected to GND.
  • The ARDUINO_A5 is connected to the DIP PL switch, so I think I can switch off that switch.

My question is if what I'm thinking is safe and can I use those ports with that configuration?

  • ARDUINO_A3 -> GND
  • ARDUINO_A4 -> GND
  • SW1 -> OFF -> GND

    It looks OK to me but rather than grounding the pins directly why not link them to ground by 470R or so and test. If no volts across 470R you can short them if the ADC is noisy. If you ground them…

    If no volts across 470R you can short them if the ADC is noisy.

    If you ground them and run an image on the FPGA that pulls them high you might blow a pin driver .

    Thank you very much Michael! I will follow your advice, better safe than sorry. I will post the results in a future blog.
