Something is still missing

A While ago I got a new shipment. It's a 8X8 LED matrix kit for Raspberry Pi. The idea is that I'll assembly the kit and use it to practice programming on the device - and then eventually I'll just replace the LEDs with resistors or something.. at least that's the theory.

I'm still missing something and that is the motivation to start. I know once I start, things will move quickly as I cannot leave any problem unsolved, but also, as I know that this project will consume all my free time for some weeks. I'm afraid to start.

That's a good idea. Frankly I have not yet been thinking so far. My plan was first to figure out how to control a matrix display with the LED-unit and maybe trying to connect it to the camera etc. Once…

Just wondering, did the kit also include LEDs or is there extra budget to add other items?

Have you considered resistance wire rather than resistors? If you wound it in a spiral and glued it to the back of the thermochromic material it might allow for larger, more even pixels than with actual resistors and it might give better transfer of the heat, particularly if you then backed it with an insulating layer. Just a thought of something you could try out if it were of interest. There's also the possibility of doing things that are less regular than a matrix, or regular in a different sort of way (fractal-like, maybe), or with overlaps.

As to whether you stop at this point, that can only be for you to decide, but what you've proposed looks interesting and I'd like to see where you go with it.

It sometimes works to break it down into very small tasks so it is really quick to complete one task, but until you actually do one the fear is still a deterrent.

And even after doing something, the fear doesn't necessarily go away. image

At least this community will appreciate it when you do overcome the inertia....image
