It has been a long 11 weeks since this challenge started. My husband James aspork42 spent countless hours designing, testing, programming, 3d printing, building and re-building our Smart Range Hood.
Through the magic of technology I am transmitting to you a Raspberry Pie thru a Raspberry Pi!
Ta-Da!!!!
The range hood is actually pretty useful. I was very skeptical at first when he told me he would be replacing the buttons on the range hood to have a "touch screen". The touch screen works okay... There is some lag in response time. BUT the range hood does have some features I do like. For example, the range hood automatically turns on when it detects there is something hot, humid, or burning. In essence, I don't really need to use the touch screen if I don't want to.
My favorite feature is the "summon husband" button on the touch screen. I just click it, and it takes a picture of "whats for dinner" and sends a text message to my husband. Pretty cool!!! =)
The other feature I really like is how it is linked up to our home automation system in openHAB. There is a menu that has all of the range hood controls. I can turn the light on of off or the fan.
I just can't get over how awesome the range hood camera feature is!!!
Good luck to all the competitors and to all a good Pi!
