"Give a man a capacitor and he'll charge for a day, teach him to use an ESR meter and he'll spend all afternoon measuring stuff......"
I compared the atlas ESR+ readings to my Fluke 87 DMM on a couple of my current hot film power supply caps and the new Poly caps:
From left to right: 4.7uf 20V tantalum, 4.7uf 10V tantalum polymer, 100uf 35V aluminum electrolytic, and 180uf 16V SVPF electrolytic.
The ESR meter measured capacitance slightly lower than the DMM with all 4 caps tested.
100uf 35V aluminum electrolytic
180uf 16V SVPF electrolytic
4.7uf 20V tantalum
4.7uf 10V tantalum polymer - not easy to hold the probes and take a picture
Tomorrow, I'll build some circuits.
