    On a completely different tack, 'Experimenting with Instrumentation Amplifiers' might be interesting.

    Transistors - the component that makes modern electronics possible

    There are probably more transistors made than all other components combined.

    There are many parameters used to characterize transistors with lots of scope for test techniques.

    Have you ever used a "curve tracer" to plot transistor characteristics?

    Do you have a meter that can measure HFE?

    What is the weirdest transistor application you ever saw?

    Inductors would seem a natural follow on from the Capacitor Challenge but are there any new technologies entering that field?

     

    How about circuit protection - I see there is a great new fuse holder called Littelfuse plus lots of learning about the correct type of fuse regarding characteristics. Might require a few fuses if non-resetable as this would result in descructive testing ! However the pack could also include resting fuses so the challengers can see how long they take to reset, do they degrade, overheat etc?

     

    The other area that doesn't get much thought is timing - crystals and resonators could be fun and a great opportunity to learn. Perhaps including some back-to-basics oscillator designs? Other may opt to check crystal accuracy in some homebrew way.

    Given the special types of diodes, I think we could have a lot of very good experiments with the simple diode devices.

     

    Just look at all of the circuits that rely on diodes.
